The R. Chang Conspiracy

Like Mothman, a clouded figure has consistently been linked to several localized disasters throughout history, strangely, relating to rocks. This blog is dedicated to finding the truth about this person named R. Chang.

Reader "thehottieasiansensation" submitted a picture last week but left no information regarding the ticket itself or how he/she came upon it. Here it is:

I know it has Ronald Chang's name, but what is its significance??? Anyone???

UPDATE: OMG!!!! Reader "Gran It 2432" pointed out the date and time. Venezuela, December 13th, 1999. That is the day before the 1999 Vargas Mudslide where tens of thousands Venezuelans lost their lives in a mud/rockslide.

October 31st, 1928

Four years after NYU, I bought a book at a local yard sale about natural disasters and catastrophes. The name of the book is pretty irrelevant, but it was what was inside that really shook me up.

When I turned to page 168, Chapter 7: Rock Disasters, a newspaper clipping fell from the book. I almost dropped it the second I picked it up. There he was again: R. Chang. This time however, the tragedy takes place almost FIFTY YEARS PRIOR. The article even states his age at the time as 54 years old.

Naturally, one will argue that these are obviously two different persons. One named Ronald and the previous named Rodney. This would also make sense considering the same person would be 104 years old at the time of the mining accident in the preceding post.

But we're starting to see another trend here: Rocks.

Unfortunately, the rest of the article is missing. Upon further investigation, this article most likely came from "The San Francisco Chronicle", a newspaper that went bust in the 1950's when the Beatnik movement took over the city. What is more intriguing is that the archives of the newspaper were being stored on Alcatraz Island, the infamous prison, but were incinerated during a mysterious fire that broke out during the Native American occupation in the 1960's. Please note that Alcatraz is commonly nicknamed, "The Rock".

British Mining Accident November 22nd, 1978

The first instance of R. Chang I came across was when while researching my dissertation at NYU in '99. At the time, nothing seemed extraordinarily out of place when I read this article except for the fact that the spokesperson for the British National Coal Board had an name of Asian descent. It was not until years later that pure coincidence would resurrect this name again.

First Post

This is the first of many posts that examines a strangely elusive figure who goes by various first names all starting with the letter "R", last name "Chang", and is of Asian descent. If you have any information regarding "R. Chang", whether it be Ronald, Robert, Ryan, etc, please send tips to whoisrchang@gmail.com.

What we know:

Much like Mothman, a shadowy figure has been linked to various rock-related disasters dating all the way back from the 19th century to the present. This blog is dedicated to exposing who this mysterious figure is. Unfortunately, many records precede the era of the internet and many of our examples are submission based or scans of old newspaper clippings.
